Who we are
FLOCKFACTOR LLC is a digital studio registered in Ohio, United States. We design and build websites, apps and integrations for businesses. We are the controller of the personal information described on this page, which means we decide what is collected and why.
Write to mike@flockfactor.com about anything here, including a request to see or delete what we hold. Email reaches us fastest; our mailing address is available on request.
Visiting this site
flockfactor.com is a set of static pages. It sets no cookies, shows no advertising, and loads no third party trackers. Fonts and images are served from this site rather than from another company, so opening a page does not announce your visit to anyone else.
One thing happens automatically. Our host, Vercel, keeps standard server records of requests, which normally include the page requested, the time, and the visitor's IP address and browser. These keep the site running and secure. We run no analytics and count no visits.
A VPN will keep your own IP address out of those records, and the site will still work normally.
When you get in touch
The form at the foot of the home page puts your message together and then hands it to your own email app, addressed to hello@flockfactor.com. Nothing is submitted to this website and nothing is stored here. We receive whatever you choose to send, which is usually your name, your email address and a description of the work.
We use it to reply, to quote for the work, and to keep a record of what was discussed. We do not sell it, rent it, or add you to a marketing list. If we ever add a contact form that submits to a service rather than your mail app, this page will say so before it goes live.
Who else handles it
We keep this list short on purpose. Today it is:
- Vercel Inc. hosts the site.
- Our email provider carries and stores the messages you send us, in the same way any business email account does.
Each one only handles what it needs to do that job, and none of them may use your information for their own marketing.
Client projects
When we build or look after a site or app for a client, we may see information that belongs to that client and to their customers. In that work the client decides what is collected and why, and we act on their instructions under our agreement with them. This page covers our own site and our own enquiries only.
If you are a customer of one of our clients, their privacy policy is the one that applies to you.
How long we keep things
- Enquiries that do not become projects. Kept while there is a reasonable chance of working together, then deleted on request.
- Project correspondence and records. Kept for the life of the project and afterwards for as long as we need them for our records, tax and legal obligations.
- Hosting logs. Kept for the limited period our host retains them, and they hold no name or contact details.
Your rights
Wherever you live, you can ask us to tell you what we hold about you, send you a copy, correct it, or delete it. Write to mike@flockfactor.com and we will do it, normally within 30 days.
If you are in the United Kingdom or the European Economic Area, you also have the right to object to or restrict our use of your information, to ask for it in a portable format, and to complain to your data protection authority. If you are in California, you have the right to know what we collect, to have it deleted, and not to be treated differently for asking. We do not sell or share personal information, so there is nothing to opt out of.
Why we are allowed to hold it
Where the UK or EU rules apply, our grounds are simple: we hold enquiry and project information because it is needed to take steps at your request and to perform our contract with you, and we keep basic hosting records because we have a legitimate interest in a site that stays up and stays secure.
Do Not Track
Some browsers can send a "Do Not Track" signal. There is still no agreed standard for answering it, so we do not respond to it specifically. It makes no difference here: we do not track you across other websites, and we run no analytics on this one.
Security
The site is served over HTTPS. Access to our email and project files is limited to the people working on the project and protected by strong, unique passwords and two factor authentication. No system is perfect, so please do not send passwords, card numbers or other sensitive details by email. If you need to share credentials for a project, ask us and we will set up a safer route.
Children
This site is meant for businesses and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 16. If you believe a child has sent us something, write to us and we will delete it.
Where your data goes
We are based in the United States and our host and email provider store data there. If you contact us from outside the United States, your information will be transferred to and handled in the United States, where privacy laws differ from those in your country. Where UK or EU rules require it, we rely on the standard contractual clauses our providers offer for that transfer.
Changes to this page
If what we do changes, this page changes with it and the effective date at the top moves. Material changes will be obvious on the page rather than buried.
